Mass. Dem. Convention Endorses Impeachment

The Massachusetts Democratic State Convention today, meeting in plenary session, passed a resolution endorsing the impeachment of George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney.  Come read the resolution, and why this matters.

Just got home from the Massachusetts Democratic State Convention where I was a delegate.  After spending the day undermining the troops and sending the wrong message to our enemies...er I mean after spending the day hearing rousing speeches about what schlubs the Republicans are, we voted on the following impeachment resolution:

Resolution to Impeach George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney
Whereas George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney have:
Deliberately misled the nation about the threat from Iraq in order to justify a war, Condoned the torture of prisoners in violation of the Geneva Convention and US law Approved illegal electronic surveillance of American Citizens without a warrant, and Whereas these actions have undermined our constitutional system of government, damaged the reputation of America, and threatened our national security,
Therefore, the voters of the Massachusetts Democratic Convention call upon the Massachusetts Delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives to investigate these charges and if the investigation supports the charges, to vote to impeach George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney as provided in the Constitution of the United States of America.

This was approved by voice vote, with the vast majority of delegates voting for it.

Why does this matter?  First, it is an excellent summary of the high crimes and misdeamenors of the Bush administration.  Second, it puts pressure on the people in a position to do something about it, the Massachusetts House of Representatives delegation, to do the right thing.  Third, it is not some wild eyed screed against the President and Vice-President.  It calls for the charges to be investigated first, and IF THE INVESTIGATION SUPPORTS THE CHARGES to vote for impeachment.  This is a very reasonable and sane course of action.  Finally, other state conventions have voted similar resolutions.  The more State conventions that call for impeachment the more support we will get, which will hopefully result in more pressure on Congress to throw these bums out of office.
